European Blood Test Price Index · 12 October 2026

Blood test prices in Europe

What private blood tests cost in 13 European countries, from a basic health check to single longevity markers. Every price links to its source and shows the day we checked it – and, where the source is a dated price list, the date of that list.

Short answer: A basic health check costs from about €39 (Spain) to €214 (Sweden). Among tests you can order without a referral, single markers are cheapest from German self-pay labs – vitamin D from €21 and HbA1c from €13, plus a small blood-draw fee. Belgian hospital labs list even lower prices (vitamin D €13), but they normally need a doctor's prescription. ApoB is the hardest to buy on its own: the cheapest we found was €78 in Finland.

Blood test prices in Belgium

Currency: EUR (€). 4 prices, last checked .

Hospital lab prices are low, but lab tests are normally prescribed by a doctor. The direct-to-consumer route we found is a Dutch service with blood draws in Antwerp.

Before you compare: The low Belgian prices below are hospital-lab tariffs. You usually need a doctor's prescription to use them, so they aren't directly comparable with tests you can order yourself – we leave them out of the Europe-wide ranges. The €103 health check is the Dutch service's price, assumed to apply in Antwerp too; we haven't confirmed it.

Why prices differ

  • Who sells it. Self-pay lab price lists (common in Germany and Finland) are cheap per marker; consumer brands bundle markers, kits, apps and doctor comments into a higher price.
  • Sample method. Finger-prick kits avoid a clinic visit; lab draws are cheaper per marker but may add a visit or blood-draw fee; a home-nurse visit costs the most.
  • Panel size. More markers cost more overall but usually less per marker.
  • Specialist markers. ApoB and Lp(a) are less often sold alone. ApoB in particular usually comes inside a larger package.
  • Local healthcare. Where public healthcare covers tests a doctor orders – Denmark is the clearest example – there's little private demand and few direct-to-consumer options.

How to avoid paying too much

  • Compare the cost per marker you actually want, not the headline price.
  • Add the extras: blood-draw or visit fees, shipping and doctor review can change which option is cheapest.
  • For one or two markers, a local self-pay lab is often far cheaper than a consumer panel.
  • Don't pay twice: if your doctor already tests a marker, you may not need it in a private panel.
  • Check whether a "member" or introductory price needs a subscription.

How we collect prices

We record the standard advertised price for each test, in local currency, from providers and labs that publish self-pay prices, and note the date we checked it. Blood-draw, visit and doctor fees are recorded separately in the notes. Packages whose web page didn't confirm which markers they include are listed but left out of the comparison. Non-euro prices are converted with the ECB euro reference rates, 12 Oct 2026.

Blood test prices: common questions

Why do blood test prices vary so much between countries?

Prices depend on lab costs, how healthcare is funded, local competition, and whether a blood draw, a nurse visit or a doctor's review is included. In our data the same single marker can cost three or four times more in one country than another.

Do the prices include the blood draw?

Not always. Many self-pay labs charge a small fee per visit on top of the test price – in our data roughly €5–9 per order in Germany and around €23 per visit in Finland. We show the base test price and list any extra fees in the notes for each provider.

Is it cheaper to buy a panel or single tests?

If you want more than two or three markers, a panel is usually cheaper per marker. Single tests make sense when you're re-testing one marker you already track, or doing a one-off check such as Lp(a).

Can I get a private blood test in Denmark or France?

In Denmark we found no direct-to-consumer blood test service – the options are full health examinations at private clinics or hospital self-pay sampling with a doctor's request, and some people near Øresund use Swedish providers in Malmö. In France many labs will run tests without a prescription, but they rarely publish prices online, so ask the lab for a quote.

How do you convert prices to euros?

We convert local prices (GBP, SEK, NOK, DKK) using the European Central Bank's euro reference rates for the date shown. The price you pay is the local price; the euro figure is there so you can compare.

Are prices shown including tax?

We record the checkout price shown to consumers in each country, which normally includes VAT where it applies. Tax treatment of medical tests differs between countries and providers, so check the checkout total before you pay.

How often do you update prices?

We re-check prices regularly and show the date each price was last checked – and, for dated price lists, the date of the list. If you spot an out-of-date price, tell us.
